i wanted a new stand for my iPod, so i decided to make my own out of LEGOs. Here's about a day's worth of work, that boils down into finishing in 20 mins tops.
step 1: the base
take an 8x16 block
step 2: the frame
take two 1x12 peices, and your iPod™, center your iPod™ on the 8x16, and frame it out with the 1x12s. One end should overhang 4 points from the 8x16:
step 3: the back brace
remove your iPod™ (it will not be needed till step 13 now). Place two 1x10 plates accross the back (the back will be the ends of the 1x12s that are flush) one goes one point in, and the other goes 2 points in after that one:
step 4:
place a 1x10 block over each of the 1x10 plates from step 3
step 5:
place one 2x4 block one point in from either side of the 1x10s
step 6:
place one 1x10 plate one point in accross the bottom of the overhang
side step 1:
take a 2x10 plate
side step 2:
on the bottom of it, place two 2x2 plates one point in from the ends. In between those placea a 1x4 hinge peice
side step 3:
cover side step 2 with a 2x8 plate
side step 4:
place a 1x2 block on both ends of the top
side step 5:
place a 1x8 plate on the bottom of the 2x8 plate
step 7:
place the side step part one point in from the overhang
step 8:
place one 1x10 block on both sides
step 9:
place a 1x10 block in the back, and a 2x8 block in the front of the back brace
step 10:
place a 2x4 block one point in on both sides of the back brace
step 11:
place a 1x8 nlock in the back, and a 2x6 block in the front
step 12:
place one 2x4 block on the top, one point in on both sides
step 13:
place the iPod™ into the stand, and use it as a guide to put the 1x3 bends into place
step 14:
connect the bubble thing to the hinge
finished!
The 8x16 piece I used could be replaced by any other piece that is at least 8x10. I used the 8x16 piece cause it served a purpose later on for what I want to connect this stand to, but you can use any piece. Also this stand is built upon the 30gb 5th gen iPod™ with video. It should work for any other iPods out there, but you may not be able to connect the dock wire as easy, if that’s the case, I’m sure you can figure out a way to fix it.
